In partnership with other City Agencies and Nonprofit Organizations, DHS works to prevent homelessness before it begins, reduces street homelessness, provide temporary shelter, and connect individuals and families to stable housing all with a focus on accountability, empathy, and equity. DHS is committed to continuous improvement and employs innovative strategies to deliver high-quality services that support a swift transition from shelter to self-sufficiency. The agency manages hundreds of facilities and operates with a large team as well as a several billion-dollar budget to meet the diverse needs of New Yorkers experiencing homelessness.The Division of Shelter Operations oversees the day-to-day operations of the agencys Single Adult, Adult Families and Families with Children shelter systems, both directly run and contracted providers. The work done in this Division centers on the re-housing of all shelter populations and the implementation of programming/shelter initiatives. This Division is responsible for making sure that services to the Citys most vulnerable population are delivered 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year and throughout the five boroughs.The Department of Homeless Services (DHS) is recruiting one (1) Superintendent of Adult Institutions to function as a Superintendent who will: - Monitor shelter operations to ensure compliance with agency standards, applicable regulations, local laws, codes that establish basic sanitation, health, and environmental standards. - Work closely with the security Site Managers and their designees to oversee the activities of security personnel. - Serve as a Certified Fire Safety Coordinator for the shelter to ensure that the facility complies with fire code regulations at all times.- Provide oversight and direction to comprehensive programs in social service, recreation, medical, occupational, mental health, and substance abuse recovery, which provide a continuum of care to shelter residents.- Evaluate and review the effectiveness of program operations and services; ensure maximum utilization of available services for clients; facilitate the implementation of new programs and revisions of existing programs. - Participate in the planning of policies, procedures, and programs; Interface with local Community Boards to promote good relations in the community. - Assume the duties of the Deputy Director of Operations in their absence.Hours/Shift: Sunday to Thursday 8AM-4PM. RDOs Friday and Saturday.
