Project Engineer
IMPORTANT: To be considered for an interview, all candidates must provide PROOF OF FILING for the recent DCAS Civil Service Exam - Assistant Civil Engineer.The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) enriches the environment and protects public health for all New Yorkers by providing 1.1 billion gallons of high-quality drinking water, managing wastewater and stormwater, and reducing air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country, with nearly 6,000 employees. DEP's water supply system is comprised of 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes throughout the systems 2,000 square mile watershed that extends 125 miles north and west of the city.Under supervision of the Senior Project Manager of Green Infrastructure (GI) Design and Construction, Project Engineer responsibilities include asset testing of porous pavement, field inspections, contract plan review, soil subsurface analyzation, review of geotechnical reports and as-builts for green infrastructure citywide. Work will also include conducting desktop and site assessments to determine locations of green infrastructure, pre, during, and post construction site visits, performing various testing of GI assets and ensure contract progress, quality, safety, workmanship and conformance with contract documents, NYC Standards, and applicable codes.Typical responsibilities of the Project Engineer will include: - Perform porous pavement asset testing and field inspections for Green Infrastructure. Prepare and submit reports.- Review maintenance logs for porous pavement, geotechnical reports, contract plans and as-builts.- Coordinate with Project Managers and porous pavement cleaning operators for maintenance.- Perform inspection audits to measure proper cleaning during maintenance operations as well as contractors performance during construction of green infrastructure projects.- Perform field visits during design, geotechnical investigations, construction and post construction.- Perform desktop analysis using AutoCAD and/or ArcGIS software to analyze tributary areas and contract area boundaries for Green Infrastructure. - Perform enforcement of compliance with the DEP sewer use regulations. The Project Engineer must have strong MS Office skills, including Excel, PowerPoint, and ability to comprehend maps, graphs, and tables. Basic AutoCAD, GIS and ArcGIS knowledge is helpful for this job function.
Requirements
1. A baccalaureate degree in civil engineering from an accredited college or university and one year of fulltime satisfactory experience in civil engineering work; or2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering technology and three years of full-time satisfactory experience in civil engineering work; or3. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and a masters degree in civil engineering from an accredited college or university. Experienced (non-manager)
