Overview

BUSINESS OPERATIONS SPECIALIST I OVERVIEW


The Business Operations Specialist I supports the Security Systems Support (SSS) team, which ensures the safety, continuity, and operational readiness of Navy Federal’s branches, microsites, and campus locations. This role assists with access control processes, including issuing, activating, modifying, and deactivating system and physical access, while supporting compliance with Global Security standards. The specialist collaborates with multiple teams to support daily operations and special projects and performs work in accordance with established policies and procedures to help maintain a secure and efficient operating environment.


The Security team partners across the enterprise to deliver strategic initiatives that protect members, team members, NFCU facilities, and organizational assets. Our portfolio spans cybersecurity, fraud prevention, physical security, scam mitigation, risk management, operational resilience, and emerging technologies that strengthen Navy Federal's security posture.

Responsibilities

  • Provides operational support that directly affects the business unit functions.
  • Completes and/or monitors internal processes and performs quality control to ensure adherence to regulations, Navy Federal policies, and industry practices
  • Identifies, researches, and documents operational correlations and may administer operational workflow and functions
  • Assists management or analysts with developing and recommending enhancements to improve operational processes and procedures
  • Assists in the development of user requirements; may test new/enhanced systems and assist in training staff
  • Acts as the business unit point-of-contact for cross-organization matters; resolves/oversees resolution of customer issues
  • Develops and applies a sound understanding of the business unit's functions and their relationship to those of other business units
  • Serves as a backup to other staff members during peak business volume
  • Assists management and/or analysts in compiling, reviewing, and preparing data to be used in the analysis of operations, services, and products.
  • Researches, gathers, and synthesizes data; presents conclusions and recommendations to management
  • Prepares summaries, reports, charts, graphs, instructions and manuals/reference materials for benchmarking purposes or for inclusion in required ad hoc reports
  • Reviews studies, reports, and provides summaries to department leadership
  • Supports projects and initiatives within the business unit and/or across the organization.
  • Participates in the planning, development, implementation, and maintenance of new and existing programs
  • Researches audit findings, prepares response, and forwards to management
  • Participates in the review of Navy Federal Instructions, policy/procedural documents, and study/survey responses
  • Maintains knowledge of corporate business plans and operational/business requirements
  • Works under general supervision and follows standard course of action, with limited discretion, to achieve results and/or improve efficiency
  • May adapt or modify standard processes, procedures, etc.; offers suggestions and recommendations for operations, with limited impact
  • Performs directed research; identifies and gathers data; prepares standard reports for analysis
  • Participates in projects and typically receives guidance and instructions from management
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Candidates who have worked as Intelligence Specialist, Operations Specialist, Watch Officers, and Joint Ops Centers


  • An interest in security, fraud prevention, technology, or risk management


  • Experience managing projects involving multiple business and technology teams


  • Comfort operating in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities


  • A collaborative mindset and ability to influence without direct authority

Qualifications

  • Ability to follow and interpret instructions and procedures to accomplish assignments
  • Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software
  • Desired - Knowledge of, and experience with, credit union or retail banking operations
  • Desired - Knowledge of Navy Federal Credit Union, its organization, operations, policies, procedures, products, and services
  • Progressively responsible experience that demonstrates knowledge, understanding, and application of operational support skills, methods, and procedures, preferably in a financial institution
  • Demonstrated data gathering and organizational skills
  • Good written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
  • Desired - Education above the high school level with course concentration in business or related field

Salary:
$41,000 - $60,000 annual (Potential salary if hired by Navy Federal as a full-time employee: SkillBridge participants are not eligible for compensation from Navy Federal, as they continue to receive military compensation and benefits as active-duty service members)
